Five day long broadcasting in the form of FM exhibition showcases the cross section of production of radioCona, that opened up the issue of use of radio frequency as a public and gallery space and inspired artists, who are participating in production and promotion of sound and radio art. Meaningful title ICEbreakerFM puts forth the potential of radio-frequency space that was “broken” and opened up by Cona in the context of radio, curatorial, and artistic practices in the past years.

The first years of the initiative were mostly focused on systemic issues (copyright, access to frequencies, FM frequency as a public and gallery space). Today this platform focuses on enabling the conditions for presenting and creation of sound artworks. It also creates spatial and temporal contexts for listening to these works, which is further accentuated with scheduling this FM exhibition in night, winter time.
This multi-layered showcase of activity of radioCona is a display of conceptual and creative strategies, that were developed with local and international artists. This exhibition is also an opportunity for elucidating the meaning of contemporary sound and radio art and a crucial production platform for the creation, presenting, and affirmation of sound artworks which helps to foster relationships with the international scene.
radioCona:ICEbreakerFM puts emphasis on and places artworks and recordings of performances that were conceived in the context of sound and radio frequency as a spatial component. The selected artworks focus on the areas of acoustic ecology, transmission art, sound walks, different forms of mapping and public space interventions, which constantly shift between urban space and natural environment.
Temporary FM transmission is an opportunity to sharpen our senses and submerge ourselves in the revealing, meditative artworks and give in to the poetics of sounds from the unknown or indiscernible environments. Cona opens up and crosses the borders of sound and intermedia art, enables the space for converging of artists, and fosters interdisciplinary research.
